Q & A Giving

Where is tithing in the bible?

First mention of a tithe is in Genesis 14:17-20 when
Abram offered it to a priest named Melchizedek. The tithe was a requirement of the law in which all Israelites were to give 10 percent of everything they earned and grew to the Tabernacle/Temple (Leviticus 27:30; Numbers 18:26; Deuteronomy 14:24;2Chronicles 31:5)

New Testament shifts from tithing to giving generously. There are many scriptures that speak on the idea of giving.

We believe the law was fulfilled by Jesus. The law was a starting point in which Jesus finished. We start at a tithe(law) and build into generous giving above the tithe (New Covenant).

Where does my $ go?

Malachi 3:10
Bring all the tithes into the storehouse, That there may be food in My house, And try Me now in this,” Says the LORD of hosts,“If I will not open for you the windows of heaven And pour out for you such blessing That there will not be room enough to receive it.

Your money that is given to the church is used in various ways to be a light house to our community; from every day
things like….electricity, water, phone, cleaning and office supplies, snacks, curriculum, and craft supplies for our children…. to helping and feeding those in need, missionaries, building maintenance…. The list could go on and on.
Basically, it keeps the kingdom of God alive and growing.

What if I feel that I can’t afford to give?

First of all, the bible instructs us to walk by faith, not by sight (2 Cor 5:7) Gods kingdom works differently than the worlds system. Luke 6:38 says to Give!! and it will be given to you. They will pour into your lap a good measurepressed down, shaken together, and running over. For by your standard of measure it will be measured to you in return.” Believe His word enough to act on it! And you will never be in lack.

Psalm 37:25-I have been young and now I am old, Yet I have not seen the righteous forsaken Or his descendants begging bread.

Do I give from gross or net?

The Bible does not specifically say whether we should give 10% off our gross or net income. The Old Testament teaches the principle of firstfruits (Exodus 23:16;34:22Leviticus 2:12-142 Chronicles 31:5). Old Testament believers gave from the best of their crops, not the leftovers. The same principle should apply to our giving today. “Each man should give what he has decided in his heart to give, not reluctantly or under compulsion, for God loves a cheerful giver” (2 Corinthians 9:7).

Why does the church keep financial &tithing records?

Accountability! Accountability is crucial. The church should always be ready to demonstrate that the funds God has provided are being used wisely. Accountability is also crucial to a Christ follower. May these words motivate and guide us: "Well done good and faithful servant." (Matthew 25:21

Can you tithe other things in the place of money?

No. The bible does talk about giving your time and talents for His kingdom but not in place of. Its not pick one and neglect the other.

The idea is founded in biblical stewardship. Stewardship calls Christ followers to give back to God through tithing. Stewardship is giving out of devotion rather than duty.

Giving doesn't end with tithing. God asks that the giving heart be extended to those who need it. "A generous man will himself be blessed, for he shares his food with the poor." (Proverbs 22:9)

What does tithing entitle me to in the church?

Tithing does not entitle you to anything in the church. To think this way means that the more tithes you pay the more you are entitled to.Truth be told we are all entitled to Hell but Jesus has given us life.  Tithing is a matter of obedience not entitlement (Malachi 3:9-11). God desires our obedience over sacrifice (1 Samuel 15:22). Tithing does entitle you to God's blessings in your finances and on your life (Luke 6:38).

What happens if I don’t tithe?

Truth from Gods word Haggai 1.God’s people were dwelling in wonderful places while God’s
House lied desolate. They were not giving in to the kingdom. The effect of that was recorded in Haggai 1:6“You have planted much but harvest little. You eat but are not satisfied. You drink but are still thirsty. You put on clothes but cannot keep warm. Your wages disappear as though you were putting them in pockets filled with holes!”NLT

Matthew 6:21 For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also. Our hearts follow were our money goes. If we don’t give then we have a strong chance to have are hearts focused on so many different things.
